Burial and Memorial Options
At Tunstall Cemetery, they provide various burial options to suit different needs and traditions:
New full earth burials: Available for families looking for a final resting place for their loved ones.
Re-open graves: For families who wish to be reunited in a family plot.
Graves for cremation ashes: Providing a peaceful setting for cremated remains.
Wooden liner graves: Designed to meet the religious and cultural needs of the Muslim community.
Burial chamber: A concrete chamber that allows a burial to take place at short notice, subject to the relevant documentation being produced.
Cemetery Maintenance
They take great care in maintaining the cemetery grounds to ensure a respectful environment. Following a burial in a lawn grave, the grave will be topped up as needed while the ground settles, a process that can take up to six months. Graves are typically turfed between October and March, but they delay turfing during the summer months until September or October when weather conditions are more suitable.
Memorial Guidelines
For the safety and upkeep of the cemetery, all memorial items should be placed on the memorial foundation, rather than on the grass. They kindly request that families avoid using items that could break, such as glass or earthenware, and ensure that all items left are safe and appropriate.
If they find any items that may pose a danger to staff or visitors, or hinder our grounds maintenance, they may remove them immediately. They will contact you to ask that any unsuitable items be removed within two weeks.
Floral Tribute Removal
In keeping with our commitment to maintaining the cemetery, funeral wreaths and floral tributes will be removed two weekends after a burial. Additionally, Christmas wreaths and floral tributes will be removed on or after the third Monday in January.
