Chapel & Funeral Services

  • Chapel Details

    • Formerly the Non-Conformist Chapel, opened on 17 August 1960

    • Padded seating accommodates up to 78 mourners (configurable seating)

    • Braille service books available upon request

    • Wheelchairs are on-site and can be arranged within the chapel seating

  • Service Options

    • A 40-minute slot is allocated for each funeral service (additional time upon request)

    • Services of all denominations and beliefs are welcome

    • Funeral services can take place entirely at the Crematorium or partially at another venue, followed by a committal

    • Funeral directors coordinate with the Crematorium on specific requirements (or contact Bereavement Services staff if no funeral director is used)

  • During the Service

    • The coffin is generally brought in ahead of mourners and placed on the catafalque

    • Curtains can close for the committal or remain open for a final farewell

    • Mourners exit through the chapel’s side door, leading to the floral tribute area before returning to vehicles

    • A culvert from Whitfield House flows under the main drive, spilling into a central pool in the Garden of Remembrance

    • Two car parks within the cemetery grounds, accessible from Prestbury Road (main gate) and Westminster Road

    • Limited disabled parking areas are available

    • If car parks are full, vehicles may park along the driveway behind the crematorium
