Biddulph Cemetery
Biddulph
Stoke-on-Trent
ST8 7RG
Overview
Biddulph Town Council operates two key burial grounds—Biddulph Town Burial Ground (near St Lawrence’s Churchyard) and Woodhouse Burial Ground (off Woodhouse Lane). These communal spaces offer respectful settings for burials, interment of ashes, and quiet reflection. We kindly ask that visitors maintain the peace, dignity, and reverence of these grounds.
Current Position
Grounds Maintenance
The council employs a grounds maintenance contractor who mows and strims the grass between March and October, approximately every 2–3 weeks. The Community Payback team also assists with care and upkeep.
Items & Flowers
While the occasion of a burial service may allow some decorations, no additional flowers, plants, or items may be placed on or in the ground of a burial plot at Woodhouse Burial Ground, outside of that service time.
Burial Grounds & Locations
Biddulph Town Burial Ground
Situated at the rear of St Lawrence’s Churchyard, north of the town centre on the A527.
Spaces available for cremation interments in half graves or in the Garden of Remembrance.
Woodhouse Burial Ground
Located off Woodhouse Lane, at the rear of the bowling green on Congleton Road (ST8 7DP).
Features a lawn-style layout, where graves run foot-to-foot. Grass is regularly mown by the council’s contractor.
No flowers, plants, or other items permitted on or in the ground, apart from during burial services.
Accessibility
Footpaths & Woodland
A footpath, known as Bateman Walk, connects these two sites through a woodland area.
Vehicle Gates
The gates to Woodhouse Burial Ground are open daily from 8.30am to 7pm.
Maintenance & Activities
Burials & Re-Open Graves
You may occasionally see neighbouring plots re-opened for a new burial. Every effort is made to minimize disruption.
Ongoing Work
Monumental masons may be working near your family’s grave, or contractors could be repairing paths. Grass cutting is the main routine activity.
- Note: It is not the responsibility of grounds maintenance contractors to clean memorials.
Conditions & Environment
Weather & Ground Conditions
Biddulph’s climate can lead to wet or muddy ground, despite drainage installations in each section. We appreciate your understanding and patience.
Respectful Use of Space
We encourage visitors to respect all graves and the communal nature of the burial grounds. Disruption or disregard for these spaces is prohibited.
